  • On November 4th 2004, Jeremiah Baro and Jared Hubbard were killed in action in Iraq. On the first anniversary of the day in which the two great friends made the ultimate sacrifice in fulfilling their commitment to our great nation, a group of close friends struggled to conceive a way to both honor and remember them. Although neither Baro or Hubbard were golfers, a golf tournament was deemed to be a fitting atmosphere for the friends of the fallen to congregate and celebrate their lives.

The first year was small and casual consisting of 20 participants, the most important of which was Jared Hubbard's father, Jeff. After the round, there was talk of expanding the tournament and perhaps even raising some money for a scholarship fund that had already been set up in the name of Baro and Hubbard and Buchanan High School. Over the last few years the tournament has expanded its scope; donating $11,000 in 2007, $30,000 in 2008, $46,000 in 2009, $23,000 in 2010, $20,000 in 2011, $25,000 in 2012, $30,000 in 2013, $30,000 in 2014, $30,000.00 for 2015, $40,000 in 2016, $50,000 in 2017, $40,000 in 2018, $45,000 in 2019, $40,000 in 2020 and $50,000 in 2021 to the Fresno Veteran's Affairs Hospital.

Fort Washington Golf and Country Club began operations in 1923 as a 9 hole course with dirt fairways and sand greens. Its original design was the work of Mr. William Watson. The name Fort Washington was inspired by the area's military fort of the early pioneers and settlers. It is the location of this year's tournament.
